Advance Extraction Therapy [ bone loss prevention ]
A traditional visit to your Dentist for an extraction would be tooth removal ending with a placement of gauze, in some cases suturing will be indicated. Over the past decade a change to this age old treatment protocol has changed to what is now known as “Advance Extraction Therapy?.
When we are dealing with the removal of teeth or tooth, we allow the site to heal by secondary intention (healing on its own). If we are fortunate enough, we are able to place an implant and give the patient a second chance in this area. Often times we leave the area edentulous (no teeth) because the healing is unpredictable. |

| Today we can guide the body and aid it in regenerating osseous tissue in a predictable way and healthy manner by grafting the extraction site, in other words filling an extraction socket or area of the tooth removal, with synthetic bone. With this simple procedure after the extraction, in which the patient is already anesthetized from the extraction procedure, we will prevent 40 to 60 % of bone loss in 2 to 3 years and continue at a rate of ¼ to ½ per year, for life. |
This procedure will also result in the preservation of the alveolar ridge (shape of the mandible or extraction site area), allowing the dentist to replace with the normal architecture that was in before the extraction.
Getting the site immediately, during the extraction appointment, results into greater patient comfort, decrease bleeding, and more predictable healing. An alternative approach to suturing would be an adhesive bandage “Bandaging“ the expose bone, results in a decrease of bleeding and decrease of in the incidence of infection. The patient will no longer have to leave the office with a bleeding open wound, when other options are available. |

| From now on, when getting a tooth removed or periodontal therapy (gum treatment) ask your dentist how you can also avoid loosing bone, periodontal defects, shifting of adjacent teeth, anterior esthetic problems of denture failures; by just simply choosing “Advance Extraction Therapy? instead of the traditional tooth removal gauze placement procedure. |
